Machine Operator

Location: Oldham
Salary: £15.50 per hour, increasing to £16.50 per hour upon successful completion of training and permanent offer
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week

About the Role

We are currently looking for a Machine Operator to join a busy manufacturing environment in Oldham.

This is a hands-on production role operating cardboard packaging machinery, ensuring products are manufactured safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for someone with previous production or manufacturing experience who is looking to develop their skills and progress into a permanent position.

Following successful completion of training and a permanent offer, the rate will increase from £15.50 per hour to £16.50 per hour.

Working Hours

The role operates on a rotating shift pattern:

• Monday to Thursday: alternating between 6:00am–2:00pm and 2:00pm–10:00pm

• Friday: 6:00am–11:00am or 11:00am–4:00pm

• 37.5 hours per week

• Paid meal breaks

The Friday shifts are 5 hours but are paid as 5.5 hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Operating cardboard packaging machinery safely and efficiently.

• Setting up and preparing machinery for production.

• Loading materials and ensuring the correct materials are being used.

• Monitoring machinery during production and making adjustments where required.

• Carrying out quality checks throughout the production process.

• Identifying and reporting machine faults or product defects.

• Working to production targets while maintaining quality standards.

• Minimising waste and ensuring materials are used efficiently.

• Completing production and quality documentation accurately.

• Keeping the machinery and surrounding work area clean and tidy.

• Carrying out routine cleaning and basic machine maintenance.

• Following all health and safety procedures and company policies.

• Working effectively as part of the wider production team.

• Assisting with machine changeovers and other production duties as required.

Previous experience

Previous experience in manufacturing, production or machine operating would be beneficial, particularly experience with cardboard, corrugated or packaging machinery.

However, full training will be provided, so we are also happy to consider candidates with the right attitude and willingness to learn.
